Most of the shows in my town were at the very beginning of the month.
April, 2, 1980, June, 2 1981, September 3, 1982, & May 1, 1984.
Must be an unusual coincidence.
I was at this show too, right up front by the extended stage for the first 5 or 6 songs. Clearly remember Dave doing the kick over Mikes head about 5 feet away from me. I dont recall Eddie going right up on the extension stage while I was there. He was about 15 to 20 feet away at the closest. The volume was mindblowing, to say the least.
It was exhilerating to be up front so close, but the heat of the lights and overbearing pressure of being squished like a sardine in a can by the crowd up against the barrier was too uncomfortable for me, so I retreated back about 7 or 8 rows and actually had enjoyed it much more from that viewpoint.
DLR’s sword routine was amazing. Very impressive. The athletic physicalities of stretching himself like an olympic gymnist while quickly twirling the sword around was truly a surprising sight to behold.
Here is a retro write-up from Classic Rock magazine written by Malcome Dome. Not much of a review really. He states they played ” Ice Cream Man “, but I am 99.99 % certain they didn’t on this night.
The band Krokus was in town at the time recording an album with Bruce Fairburn and evidently some of the guys went to this VH show and hung out backstage.
( Not sure if this will turn out readable or not. Copy image & then zoom in to read. )
I remember that show in 1984. I was backstage with Alex (no joke) and we had become so tired so early on the tour he asked me what day it was.
“I said I don’t know”.
He said, “What city is this?”
I said, “I don’t know.”
We asked a local and she told us, so we repeated the conversation for comic effect.
He asked, “What day is today?”
“Show day, Tuesday first of May…I am guessing by the angle of the sun and the birds flying by”
(Yes, we were inside.)
“What city are we in?”
“Vancouver…I think? Everyone is so polite. It must be somewhere in Canada.”
Good times!
